Required Plugins and Scripts:
- Featured Content Plugin
- Popularity Contest
- TimThumb PHP Script
Installation:
- Upload tt-scripts folder in your WordPress root folder (this is where your wp-config.php is located).
- Upload the content-gallery and popularity-contest folders in the /wp-content/plugins directory.
- Activate Featured Content Gallery and Popularity Contest plugins.
- Note: For those who are having fatal error issues with the Popularity Contest plugin, download this revised plugin and activate it.
Customizing Featured Content Gallery:
- Go to Settings > Featured Content Gallery
- Recommended settings:
- Gallery Width in Pixels: 588
- Gallery Height in Pixels: 175
- Text Overlay Height in Pixels: 80
- Category Name: featured
- Number of Items to Display: 3
- Then Update Options.
Options Page
Customizing Options Page:
- Go to the General Setting and fill in your:
- Twitter Username
- FeedBurner ID
- Latest News Category Slug (optional)
- 3 Adsense codes
- Go to the Custom Advertisement Settings and fill in your:
- Full banner header codes
- 4 Square banner header codes
Additional Customization:
- Changing the Logo:
- Use the logo.psd found at the /matatag/images folder.
- Edit it using your favorite graphics application.
- Save as background-sitename.jpg and upload it at the /wp-content/themes/matatag/images folder.
- Posting a Featured Content:
- Write a post and place it at the “Featured” category.
- In your post, go below the Custom Fields section.
- Key: articleimg
- Value: url of the image (with at least width: 588px and height: 175px)
- Then click Add Custom Field.
- Save or Publish your post.
- Changing the default post thumbnail:
- In your post, go below the Custom Fields section.
- Key: MatatagImage
- Value: url of the image in the uploads folder (i.e. /wp-content/uploads/2008/11/thumbnail.jpg), don’t worry about the size because it will be resize automatically.
- Then click Add Custom Field.
- Save or Publish your post.

Be sure you have the link of the thumbnail inside your WordPress installation. Value of the thumbnail should start with /wp-content/ . Here are sample codes:
/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/thumbnail.jpg
/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/thumbnail.png
/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/thumbnail.gif
Note: Do not use http:// anymore in the value.
Trying to set this up for a mate, got everything working so far apart from the image in the featured post, any ideas?

I have uploaded and installed Matatag WordPress Theme and content gallery and activated the both, but popularity-contest plugin can’t activate, while activating says as fatal error,
How to solve this?

If Popularity Contest plugin can’t be activated due to a fatal error, this is due to a missing table in your database.
Go to your phpMyAdmin and run this following SQL queries:

Note that PREFIX refers to your Wordpress table prefix, in most common cases it is simply wp_ unless you’ve got multiple copies of Wordpress running in the same database.
